Chairman of CPN (UML) KP Sharma Oli had a group meeting with the ambassadors of the United States and the United Kingdom and the acting ambassadors of Australia, Switzerland, and the European Union.
US Ambassador Randy Berry, British Ambassador Nicola Pollitt, Ambassadors of Australia, Switzerland, and the European Union met with UML President Oli at the UML party office, Chyasal today.
Those Ambassadors from western countries have met UML President KP Oli regarding the Transitional Justice Act.
At this meeting, UML Vice President Subaschandra Nemwang, Deputy Secretary General Bishnu Rimal, and Foreign Affairs Department Secretary Dr. Anjan Shakya were also present as a participant.
Ambassadors raised questions to Chair Oli about the opinion and role of the main opposition CPN UML as the Nepal government is to amend the Act on Transitional Justice.
Their interest and concern was that while amending the Act on Transitional Justice, attention should be paid to international standards and recognition. They said that the provisions according to the commitments made by Nepal in the international world should be in the law and for that, UML should have an effective and important role.
In a reply, UML President Oli said that it is UML's opinion that the entire process of the Parliament should be completed when creating and amending the Act on Transitional Justice. He clarified that the UML believes that it is not fair to move such important bills through a short process.
UML Senior Vice President and Constituent Assembly Chairman Subashchandra Nemwang said that we should see what the Supreme Court decides on this matter and Nepal should proceed with the process according to its commitment made to the international world.
