Chinese arrested with four kilogram of pure gold powder

Police have arrested a Chinese national from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for smuggling above four kilogram of pure gold.

The arrested has been identified as Zhang Li, 36, of Fujiyan Province in China. He had travelled to Nepal from Dubai via Himalaya Airlines flight yesterday.

Li was arrested by the joint operation by Airport Security force of the Nepal Police and Metropoloitan Police Crime Division on a basis of tip off from police's source. A police source told pardafas that the smuggler was arrested after the smuggler was cleared through custome.

He was carrying the gold in powder form wrapped in his hips inside a special baggage.

Number of Chinese people smuggling the valuable yellow metal inside the country has significantly rise in the country lately.

The gold smuggling racket in Nepal seems far from being controlled despite large effort from the government and police to control it.

At least 650 kilograms were confiscated by the police from the TIA in the last six years.
