CPN-Maoist leader Pun intensifies meeting leaders in China

Leader of CPN (Maoist Centre) Barsaman Pun, who is in Shenzhen, China for medical treatment, is reported to have intensified meetings with Chinese leaders recently.

As per a Nepali online media outlet   Nepal Khabar  Pun had a bilateral meeting with the Chinese Deputy Minister Chen Zhao in Shenzhen of China on December 27.

Pun had on end-November flown to China from a hospital in Bangkok at Thailand for the treatment of jaundice he had been suffering from.

Pun’s meeting of the Chinese leaders is being taken as a meaningful political stunt as the Chair of his party Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ recently said that the United States was on a path to induce war against China. Also, the Maoist party has made it loud and clear that Nepal should not endorse the Millennium Challenge Corporation without proper amendments to it, while the US has been forcing the Nepali politics to endorse it as soon as possible.

Pun, who is vying for the position of general secretary in the ongoing eight general convention, is likely to remain there for a couple of weeks. A close aide of Pun talking to pardafas said, ‘although the health condition of Pun is gradually recovering they are waiting for the final results from doctors which will likely take 10 to 15 days.”

Zhao with whom Pun had met is the Deputy Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China and also the secretary of the party members under the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party.

Onsari Gharti, wife of pun and also a former Speaker and Lumbini State Chairman of the Maoist Center was present during the meeting with the Chinese delegation that includes some Chinese Deputy Ministers.

The Nepal Khabar reported that the meeting was organized upon request from Dahal to discuss bilateral relationship between two countries. It also claimed that the meeting was held to discuss ways to strengthen the relationship between the Chinese Communist Party and the CPN – Maoist Centre.

Pun also said that Zhao wished success to the eighth General Convention of the ongoing Maoists party and expressed confidence that the Maoists would be further strengthened under the leadership of Chairman Prachanda. Similarly, Zhao had said that the Chinese Communist Party and the CPN-Maoist Center were close friends and stressed on strengthening these ties in the days to come. Zhao is also quoted as stressing the need of uniting all the communist parties in the country.

Responding to a query from the Chinese side, Leader Pun said that the party would unite among communists sharing similar ideologies. He further added that if unification was not likely, they would go to the election forming alliances with other parties. Pun also informed Zhao that his much hyped party unification with CPN- UML was not successful due to KP Sharma Oli whose regressive moves were anti-constitutional, against the party’s philosophy and anti-cooperative activities. Pun also told Zhou that if Oli shows transformation in his behavior the party unification was still possible.

Similarly, Pun had briefed that the current alliance will go until the next election and thereafter as well.
