Delhi has not interfered in 12-point agreement: Leader Bhattarai

Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Nepal Socialist Party Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that the then Maoist party did not want to capture the Nepali army.

While addressing the launch ceremony of the autobiography of former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa on Thursday, former Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai explained that the government led by the then Maoist party did not try to take over the army by taking action against the Chief of Army Staff (COSA).

After the first Maoist-led government issued a letter of action to the then COSA Rukmangada Katuwal, the Maoists had to leave the government, Dr. Bhattarai said. Referring to the incident in the book, he said that the Maoists tried to make the Nepalese army loyal to the people.

Furthermore, he said, at that time, the President took unconstitutional steps by impeaching the general, and then from there, unconstitutional steps started.
