Dhiraj Pratap Singh became the 29th Inspector General of Nepal Police

The government has promoted AIG Dhiraj Pratap Singh to the post of 29th Inspector General (IGP) of Nepal Police. A cabinet meeting held today decided to promote him to IGP, a minister said.

AIGs Bishwaraj Pokharel, Sahakul Thapa and Rabindra Dhanuk were among the claimants for the post of IGP in the police.

The government has selected a new IGP after police IGP Shailesh Thapa Chhetri will retire on Monday.

Singh, a permanent resident of Nepalgunj, was born in 2024 BS. He has a bachelor's degree in law and a master's degree in humanities.

He had joined the Nepal Police as an inspector in 2049 BS. Although he competed for the post of inspector along with the team including IGP Shailesh Thapa, he was included in the alternative list. His term will be about one year. Singh was promoted to AIG on April 22.

When he was SP, he led Parsa and Dang. As SSP, he was the head of the Metropolitan Crime Investigation Division.

Singh had assumed command of Madhesh Pradesh when he was the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). He is currently heading the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
