For the first time in 14 years, France will play the role of chair of the Council of the European Union. He will chair the Council of the European Union from January 1, 2022.
France will assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 January to 30 June 2022, subject to the rule that each member state may hold the presidency for 6 months.
The chairperson of the council is responsible for organizing meetings, concluding various agreements, presenting conclusions and ensuring support and continuity of the decision-making process.
France also has to act as a liaison between the Commission and the European Parliament, fulfilling all these roles. This association is also called the Council of Ministers or the General Council, which helps to bring together the ministers of the member countries and bring them together in configuration according to the area of activity. France will also have a special role to play in this.
The Council also approves and revises the European budget. In the end, the council has to accept non-binding recommendations along with some decisions. It also serves to conclude international agreements. It also has jurisdiction to appoint members of certain bodies, including European auditors, the European Economic and Social Commission and the European Commission.

The French presidency of the Council of the European Union has pledged to continue its special work for a more inclusive, sovereign and democratic Europe.
