Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pandey has said that former Nepali soldiers of the Indian Army are the cornerstone of the relationship between Nepal and India.
On Wednesday, while addressing a ceremony held at the Indian Pension Camp at Rambazar in Pokhara, Chief of Army Staff Pande said that former Nepalese soldiers have played an important role in strengthening the relationship between the two countries for many years.
Mentioning that duty and honesty are the characteristics of Nepalese former soldiers, he said that the Indian Army is continuously working on their welfare scheme of them. He said that the Indian Army is also making service facilities including pension easy and simple for those former soldiers .
He informed that there are 35,000 Gurkha soldiers and 125,000 former Nepali soldiers serving in the Indian Army
General Pande said that Nepal and India have similarities in culture, diet, etc. and citizens of both countries are moving easily due to open borders.
On the occasion, he handed over cash checks and materials to the families of soldiers who had achieved valor while serving in the Indian Army.
He also handed over the keys of three mobile medical units aimed at providing medical care to ex-servicemen living in remote areas.
Army Chief Pande also had a courtesy meeting with the former soldiers and their families during the event.
