Former PM Bhattarai reiterates need to ratify MCC amidst growing rift in the coalition government

Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Federal Council of the Janata Samajwadi Party Baburam Bhattarai has yet again reiterated the need to ratify the much hyped Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) through the House of Representatives without further delay.

Bhattarai taking to twitter reinforced his old stand about passing the MCC from the Parliament on the basis of consensus, and made a collective effort from all leaders to make the people understand its importance (or to remove the confusion about MCC amongst people).

Bhattarai's statement has come forwards when there has been a rising rift among the ruling coalition in the government about the MCC.

“Let not this coalition government formed against the regressive system (KP Oli led government) be broken under these pretext. Let not this case (MCC) become a burden (bone of contention) for the conservative communists in the country,” Bhattarai said.

He further urged everyone to work together to stop the country from becoming more impoverished and stop ruining the country through manipulation of power centers.

In a next tweet about MCC Bhattarai said that many leaders acted of sleeping rather than actually sleeping regarding the MCC deal so it was difficult for leaders to wake them up about changing their attitude about the MCC.

MCC has become a political tool among the leaders in the country. Many leaders who kept silent while in power are seen being against the MCC deal upon being in opposition. In the current coalition government of five parties the Nepali Congress has been pressuring other parties to ratify the MCC as soon as possible while other parties including Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s CPN Maoist Centre have been refusing to ratify the deal as it is through the parliament.
