Icefall doctors reach Mt Everest Base Camp

A team of eight icefall doctors has reached the base camp to pave the way to the summit of Everest. A team led by Angsarki Sherpa, an icefall doctor who has been active in road construction for a long time, has reached the base camp.

According to Lama Kaji Sherpa, vice-chairman of the Everest Pollution Control Committee (SPCC), the team left Namche for the base camp on March 12. The team will start the work after worshiping at the Pangboche Gumba and visiting the site. According to him, the team is now staying at the base camp. He said that the work will start this year as per the site as in the past.

Icefall doctors work their way from the base camp to Mount Everest to the second camp. They will do things from scare to rope. From the base camp, the world's highest peaks, Mount Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse are climbed.

 

Tourists start arriving

With the start of the tourist season, foreign tourists have started coming to Khumbu in the Everest region. With the onset of spring, the number of foreign tourists entering the Khumbu region has been increasing. According to the Khumbu Pasanglamu Municipality, more than 100 domestic and foreign tourists visit the Khumbu area daily.

Due to the Corona pandemic, tourist arrivals in the Khumbu area have not been possible for a long time. Tenzing Jangbu Sherpa, a tourism entrepreneur from Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Gaunpalika-4, Chukum, said that tourists are now flocking. At present, there is a lot of activity at Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, said Dwarika Achhami, head of Civil Aviation Authority Lukla. Up to 20 helicopters and 35 ships fly daily in Lukla.

Aircraft that come empty from Kathmandu to Lukla in winter and return from Lukla carrying a significant number of passengers are now returning without passengers. According to the airport office, the number of passengers leaving Khumbu in cold weather is high but with the onset of tourist season, the pressure of inbound passengers is high and the number of returning passengers is almost zero. Tourist arrivals in the Khumbu area increase from September to November and from February to May.
