Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Lumbini on Monday.
Ahead of his visit to Lumbini, Modi issued a statement on Sunday saying that he was happy to have the opportunity to visit Lumbini.
During the visit, Modi said he would hold talks with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and discuss ways to improve relations between the two countries.
Modi also said that they would discuss ways to expand cooperation in the areas of hydropower, development and connectivity.
Modi also mentioned that India and Nepal have an incomparable people-to-people relationship based on civilization.
This is Modi's fifth visit to Nepal since becoming the Prime Minister in 2014. This is his first visit since being re-elected Prime Minister in 2019. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Lumbini.
During the visit, Modi will spend six hours in Lumbini on Monday.
Modi's delegation will include India's National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Foreign Ministry Joint Secretaries Arindam Bagchi and Anurag Srivastava, and Prime Minister's Office Joint Secretary Rudra Gaurav Shrestha.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to be welcomed at the helipad near the International Buddhist Prayer Center and Auditorium by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, members of the Council of Ministers, Lumbini Chief Minister Kul Prasad KC and Acting Ambassador of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu Namgya Khampa.
