Polling to elect the next Vice President of India began at 10 am on Saturday.
Members of Parliament of both houses are voting to elect the next Vice President of India.
As the voting begins, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to cast his vote.
Apart from PM, Union home minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Rajnath Singh, and Piyush Goyal also casted their vote for the Vice Presidential election at the Parliament.
For a Vice President, NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar is pitted against Opposition pick Margaret Alva. The 80-year-old Alva is a Congress veteran and has served as governor of Rajasthan, while the 71-year-old Dhankhar is a Jat leader from Rajasthan and has served as governor of West Bengal.
The voting will continue till 5 pm.
The ballots will be counted immediately after the voting. Results will be declared by late Saturday evening.
India’s next Vice-President will take the oath of office on August 11, a day after the term of the incumbent Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu ends.
