New Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava arrived in Kathmandu today.
Ambassador Srivastava is a career diplomat. He is coming from New Delhi where he was heading the East Asia Division that deals with China, Japan, Korea and Mongolia.
He headed the Indian delegation in several rounds of diplomatic talks with China on the eastern Ladakh border row.
He was part of a meeting of the Indo-China Military Command in May 2020 to calm the situation in eastern Ladakh. Ambassador Srivastava has served previously as Ambassador of India in Cambodia from 2015-17.
He has also served in Washington, Beijing, Shanghai and Hongkong in various capacities. Ambassador Srivastava entered the Foreign Service in 1993.
He was the Director General of the New Development Bank in Shanghai, China from 2017 to 2019. Similarly, Srivastava, who served as the Indian Ambassador to Cambodia from 2015 to 2017, was the Indian Consul General in Shanghai, China from 2012 to 2015.
Ambassador Srivastava, who holds a Master in Technology from the University of Maryland, has a BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi.
After appointing Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Nepal's ambassador, as foreign secretary, India has appointed Srivastava as its ambassador.
Kwatra has taken over as India's 34th foreign secretary.
India's cabinet meeting on April 5 decided to appoint kwatra as foreign secretary.
After Harshvardhan Shringala took compulsory leave from the Foreign Service, Kwatra took over the responsibility.
