India’s Foreign Minister urged Nepali counterpart to take forward the Ramayan Circuit on the sideline of BIMESTEC

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Narayan Khadka today met his Indian counterpart Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the sideline of the BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting today held at Colombo, Srilanka.

Minister Khadka had flown to Colombo to participate the much-hyped development summit of seven South Asian and Southeast Asian nations known as “The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation” or BIMSTEC.

It has been reported that S Jaishankar focused the talk about  ways to take forward the ‘Ramayan Circuit’ to enhance ties between the age-old friendly country. The concept of Ramayan Circuit, inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is to develop trade and tourism through the ancient path where lord Ram had undertaken to visit Nepal while marrying Sita, the daughter of King Janak of Nepal.

“Foreign Minister Hon. Dr. Narayan Khadka meets External Affairs Minister of India H.E. @DrSJaishankar on the sidelines of the 18th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting in Colombo. Matters including the ongoing preparations for Rt. Hon. PM’s visit to India were discussed in the meeting,” the MoFA twitted after the meeting of the two ministers.

Similarly Jaishankar twitted, “Good to meet FM Narayan Khadka of Nepal on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Ministerial. Discussed our cooperation in connectivity, energy, fertilizers, health and power. Agreed to focus on taking forward the Ramayan circuit.”

Khadka participated in the 18 th BIMESTEC Ministerial Meeting where he also held meetings with Deputy PM and FM of Thailand Don Pramudwinai and FM of Bangladesh A. K. Abdul Momen.

The BIMSTEC is a regional multilateral organization of the countries that lie in the adjacent aeras of the Bay of Bengal, constituting a contiguous regional unity. The members include Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanak, Myanmar and Thailand.
