Japan to honour former Nepali ambassador and educationist Mathema with its second-highest award

Education reformist and a civil society member Kedar Bhakta Mathema will receive the ‘Order of the Japan’ (the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star) provided by the Government of Nepal.

The ‘Order of the Rising Sun’ is the second highest award also known as the Order of the Paulownia Flower, which is normally bestowed to politicians.

Mathema, who also once served as a Nepalese ambassador to Japan, is popularly known in Nepal as an educationist. Mathema had led the country’s oldest and largest Tribhuvan University as a vice-chancellor and worked at various develop sectors in national and international levels.

Meanwhile, Nepal’s Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Minister have agreed to allow Mathema to receive the award by the decision of March , Government of Nepal’s cabinet have agreed to let Mathema by the decision of 28 March, 2022.
