A Nepali team has provided lhumanitarian assistance and relief materials to neighboring Afghanistan that has been going through a serious humanitarian crisis.
A team led by joint-secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Ministry Sewa Lamsal left the country today morning carrying 12 tons of relief materials like pharmaceutical drugs, home appliances and clothes.
Afghanistan, has been facing grave humanitarian crisis after the religious hardliners Taliban, took over the control of the country on August 15, 2021 following the retraction of American Army from there.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Narayan Khadka, speaking media in a short program at the Tribhuvan International Airport said that the relief materials, including medicines have were dispatched to Kabul via chartered Himalaya Airlines. This is the first relief pacakage sent by Nepal to foreign country through its own airplane. The relief materials will be handed over to the UN representatives in Kabul. The team will then return later today evening after completion of the handing over ceremony.
Minister Khadka applauded support from various industrialists, business tycoons, Airlines, Nepal Oil Corporation and the UN to make this campaign successful. “It is an important mission in a view of international relations as we took initiation to help those in dire need of helping hands,” Minister Khadka said. Adding he further said that Nepal is capable to provide such relief to the people facing grave danger across any corners in the world. “I hope this will help increase our glory in the world, as this is a historical initiation.” Khadka added.
Nepal has decided to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan as the current chair of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka during a press meets today at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Afghanistan is one of the member states of SAARC.
Earlier, the United Nation had urged the member states to support Afghanistan to prevent any serious humanitarian. The World Food Program had warned of serious famine in the winter. The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres thus appealed for the assistance from all states.
The WFP has also said that around 3.2 million children below five years will likely to lose their life if they could not meet the current crises there, also additional one million children will likely die if they could not get the required medicine on time.
