Letter from German Chancellor Olaf to Prime Minister Deuba, Bilateral Development Cooperation Continued

The German government will continue its bilateral development assistance to Nepal in the areas of sustainable economic development, climate and energy, and health and social security, even after 2023.

German Ambassador to Nepal Dr. Thomas Prinz handed over the letter sent by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday morning.

According to the letter, Germany's assistance was suggested in the areas of sustainable economic development, climate and energy, and health and social security.

The Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of the Federal Republic of Germany has been providing development assistance to Nepal.

According to the German Embassy in Kathmandu, representatives of the Ministry of Federal Economic Cooperation and Development will arrive in Nepal by 2022 for official bilateral government talks.

Ambassador Dr. Prinz said, "I am very pleased that the German government has decided to continue its bilateral development assistance to Nepal. It gives us the opportunity to jointly address important challenges such as climate change. "

Nepal and Germany have been exchanging bilateral cooperation for more than 60 years.

German development assistance has been supporting Nepal's efforts to achieve sustainable development goals. Immediate assistance was also provided after Covid-19.

Since September 2021, Germany has provided support to Nepal's goal of green and inclusive development, as signed by the Government of Nepal and the Kathmandu Declaration on the Grid, approved by 17 development partners.

In Nepal, Germany has been providing bilateral technical assistance through the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Federal Institute of Physical-Technical (PTB) and financial assistance through the Reconstruction Credit Institute (KFW).

"Germany commends Nepal's involvement in the rule of law and international law, as well as for peace and stability in South Asia and around the world," the embassy said in a statement.

The Federal Republic of Germany and the Government of Nepal are bound by common values, especially democracy, human rights and multilateralism.
