Litterateur Dr. Tara Nath Sharma, a leader of the radical movement of Nepali literature, writer, essayist, literay critic and storyteller, also known as Tana Sharma died today morning at the age of 87.
Winner of prestigious Madan Puraskar in 2026 B.S for his collection of essays 'Beraitir Baralinda', Sharma has written over 110 books. He also won Saajha Puraskar for Sama Ra Samaka Kriti and is also famous for devising school texts books.
Born in Barbote, Ilam, he first started studying Sanskrit at home. Later while studying in Benaras in 2013 BS, Sharma initated the 'radical literary movement' with friends including Ballabhmani Dahal and Bal Krishna Pokhrel.
Sharma's last rites will be performed today afternoon. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Sharma was suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems for some times. He was unable to move around lately and had become weaker. He was also suffering from dementia for the last few years.
He also once edited The Rising Nepal, a state owned English daily.
According to his relatives, his body will be kept at his residence for people to pay final tribute.
