Liz Truss wins Tory leadership race to become UK’s next PM

Liz Truss will become UK’s next prime minister after beating her rival former finance minister  Rishi Sunak in the bitterly fought Conservative Tory leadership contest.

She won by a comfortable margin, but her victory was slimmer than in other recent leadership contests.

With members of the Conservative Party asked to vote for their favorite candidate over the last few weeks, 81,326 members voted for Truss while 60,399 members voted for Sunak.

She will be the UK's third female PM and the fourth PM from the Conservatives party.

Truss will succeed ousted Boris Johnson as British Prime Minister.

Liz Truss has won the Conservative Party leadership contest, but she'll have to wait until Tuesday to formally become prime minister.
