Lower house forms recommendation committee to study impeachment of CJ Rana

The House of Representatives formed an 11-member impeachment recommendation committee to study the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Sunsher JBR.

 

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota announced the formation during the House meeting this afternoon amidst the obstruction of the main opposition party CPN (UML).

 

The CPN-UML, has been obstructing the House meeting for the past several months demanding the removal of Speaker Sapkota. Although, even the party has also been represented in the committee, which is passed by a majority.

 

Member of Parliament Ekwal Miyan, Kalyani Kumari Khadka, Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel, Pramod Sah, Min Bahadur Vishwakarma, Yashoda Gurung Subedi, Ram Bahadur Bista, Rekha Sharma, Lalbabu Pandit, Bishnu Prasad Poudel and Dr. Shivamaya Tumbahamphe are the members of the committee. Speaker

 

Sapkota announced that the proposal to form an 11-member general recommendation committee has been passed by a majority in the House of Representatives as per Article 101, Clauses 3 and 4 of the Constitution of Nepal and Rule 162 of the Rules of the House of Representatives 2075 BS.

 

Lawmakers have filed case of impeachment against the Chief Justice accusing him of 20 sets of offenses like embezzlements, misuse of power and immoral activities.

 

In the meeting, the government has presented the 31st Annual Report of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Fiscal Year 2077-78 BS. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu presented the report on behalf of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

 

The next meeting of the House of Representatives has been called for Sunday, March 13 at 1 p.m.

 

Meanwhile, Sapkota also announced that CPN-UML lawmaker Mohan Baniya has been suspended as per the House rules after he was arrested on a rape charge.  

 

Earlier, on February 10, a 40-year-old woman had filed a complaint at the police claiming she was raped by the leader who represents Mugu of Karnali in the lower house.
