Misri, once an ambassador to China, is India's new Deputy National Security Adviser

Vikram Misri has been appointed as Deputy National Security Adviser to the Secretariat of the National Security Council of India.

 

The career diplomat from 1989 batch of Indian Foreign Service (IFS), officer Misri is believed to be an expert in China issue who also served as the Indian ambassador to China earlier.

 

Misri is going to take the place of Pankaj Saran after the later will officially step down on December 31.

 

Misri will be the third Deputy National Security Adviser after Rajendra Khanna and Datta Pandasalgikar. He will report to National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on the national security issues. Meanwhile, Pradip Kumar Rawat has been appointed as the Indian Ambassador to China.

 

Misri was born on November 7, 1964 in Srinagar. He has completed his schooling from Scindia School in Gwalior. He graduated with a degree in History from the Hindu College of Delhi University. He did his MBA from Jamshedpur.

 

In his early career Misri worked for an advertising agency for three years before becoming an IFS officer. He was appointed Indian Ambassador to China in January 2019. Prior to that, he was the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar.

 

He was also appointed Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office of India. He has also served in several Indian missions in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. He also served as Private Secretary to India’s former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from 2012 to 2014 and also to incumbent PM Narendra Modi from May to July 2014.
