NA Chair urges China to facilitate opening Nepal-China transit points

National Assembly (NA) Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina has urged the Chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, Li Zhanshu, to facilitate for resuming the transit points along the Nepal-China border. 

During his meeting with the Chinese leader, the Upper House chair urged for facilitating to operate the Tatopani, Kerung and Korola points during the festivals. 

The NA Chair utilized the meeting to urge the Chinese side to implement the 'Belt and Road Initiative agreement, carry out a detailed feasibility study of the Trans Himalaya (Kerung-Kathmandu) Railway Service and resume Chinese-funded projects in Nepal affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Federal Parliament Spokesperson Dr. Rojnath Pandey. 

On the occasion, the two discussed mutual cooperation and close relations existing between the countries with a grave reverence for territorial integrity, peaceful co-existence, and sovereignty of both neighbors. 

 The undertaking of efforts to promote mutual interests in the days ahead, exchange of parliamentary assistance, and bilateral high-level visits were other agendas of discussions in the meeting. 

Recalling the bilateral high-level visits and agreements in the past, the NA Chair said the relationship between the two close nations is 'firm like the mountain and pure as the river'.   

He also thanked the Government of China for its contribution to Nepal's prosperity as its major development partner. He said Nepal is always committed to the One-China policy and its security interests. 

The Chair of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress expressed his support for the issues raised by Timilsina and assured of the facilitation to address the issues along the Nepal-India transit points. 

During the meeting that lasted for around an hour, both leaders expressed commitments to contributing to Nepal's parliamentary development and promoting the exchange of mutual cooperation. 

In the meeting, the 18-member NA delegation was led by Chair Timilsina while Li headed the Chinese side. 

Devendra Dahal, Gopi Bahadur Sarki Achhami, Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi, Dr. Beduram Bhusal, Pramila Kumari, Shekhar Kumar Singh, Tul Prasad Bishwakarma, Dr. Bimala Rai Poudyal, Khimlal Devkota, NA secretary Rajendra Phuyal and the Foreign Secretary were among those present in the bilateral meeting on behalf of Nepal.
