Nepal will produce fuel from hydrogen, ammonia and urea.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has signed an agreement with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) of South Korea to start production of fuel from hydrogen, ammonia and urea in Nepal.

The agreement was signed by GGGI Director General Frank Rijsberman and Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Kulman Ghising in the presence of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal at Singha Durbar on Tuesday.

The agreement stipulates that GGGI will conduct necessary studies for the production of the fuel, facilitate the Government of Nepal for its implementation and provide all necessary technical assistance.

According to Ghising, managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority, the agreement stipulates that the production of hydrogen fuel in Nepal will be taken forward by including Kathmandu University.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Bhusal said that the project would play a significant role in displacing the world's most expensive petroleum products and expressed confidence that the concerned parties would focus on its speedy implementation.

She also said that the project has opened a new door for Nepal's energy sector.

Minister Bhusal also clarified that such projects related to fuel would be useful in Nepal for the consumption of hydropower.
