Nepali conservationist Sonam shortlisted for prestigious Whitley award

Nepali conservationist Sonam Tashi Lama, working to protect the country’s endangered red panda is is shortlisted for the prestigious Whitley Award 2022.

He is among the among 15 activists selected from worldwide for the award.

The Whitley Fund for Nature has recognized him for his incessant effort to save endangered red panda, through community-based initiatives.

Working as a Program Coordinator in Red Panda Network, Sonam Tashi Lama has been working for more than a decade to consereve the red panda  also called the ‘first panda’.

Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) is a UK fundraising and grant-giving charity founded by Edward Whitley OBE in 1993. The award winners are local environmental heroes working across countries to create lasting benefits for wildlife, landscapes and people.

Ornithologist Dr. Hem Baral in 2005 has  also won this award for his effort to conserve endemic bird species through at Phulchoki forest inside the Kathmandu valley, the federal capital of Nepal.
