Qatar World Cup has become an attractive labor destination for Nepalis at zero cost

The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has given permission to take Nepali workers for the World Cup football tournament starting in November later this year in Qatar.

Various companies in Qatar wanted to hire Nepali workers for a short duration in view of the World Cup 2022. Accordingly, the government has decided to send Nepali workers after completing all the due procedures.

Joint Secretary at the Ministry and Head of the Employment Management Division Rajiv Pokharel shared that since the workers will be sent for a short period it has been decided to send them only after granting them a work permit.

With the decision of the ministry, the Embassy of Qatar will verify the demands proposed by the employers who are willing to take workers for a short period of time.

The employer has to bear the entire expenses incurred in the recruitment process including the two-way air tickets of the workers. The working period of such workers in Qatar will be less than six months. Apart from the recruitment agencies, those who want to go for short-term employment individually will also be allowed to go if they have a visa and a work permit.

As per the law, the minimum duration of the work permit is two years but there is also a legal provision to grant work permits for short-term work opportunities and visas, said Joint Secretary Pokharel. The number of workers to be taken from Nepal for the Qatar World Cup is not decided yet.
