Nepal’s Bard Bahadur Battalion bags best peacekeeping force in UNIFIL

The 62 nd batch of the Bard Bahadur Battalion deployed in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission also known as UN Peacekeepers has succeeded in becoming the best among 10 similar battalions from separate nations deployed there.

The UNIFIL mission has selected Nepali peacekeepers the best in recognition of their outstanding contribution who had served in the 62 nd Battalion in their area of ​​responsibility.  

UNIFIL Mission Chief and Force Commander Major General Stefano del Colonel commended the head of the Battalion for the excellence service and provided certificate of the excellence, as per the Nepali Army Public Relations and Information Directorate.

As per the Directorate, the battalion had served the people there who were battling the peak of Covid-19 spread in the community around eight municipalities there in Lebanon. Apart from the primary peacekeeping mission, the Nepali soldiers had undertaken effective public interest programs such as maintenance of public parks, tree plantations, maintained gardens and distributed COVID-19 gears and equipment to the public. The UNIFIL has also expressed gratitude to the Nepali battalion for providing incessant and robust security to secure historical forts, providing quality dental services, distributing stationery for schools and spreading awareness about women's health.

Similarly, the Nepali Army has established an ‘agricultural pond’ and public garden at the highest investment so far in the local Vlida Municipality. The Nepali battalion, for the first time in the history of the mission, was able to conduct olive cultivation and transportation in conflict sensitive areas in a stress-free and safe environment by meaningfully coordinating and cooperating with local bodies, Lebanese Armed Forces and other stakeholders to minimize potential risks.
