Nepal’s flag has been waved at the South Pole for the first time in history with the successful ascent by famous mountaineer Nirmal Purja aka Nims and his team members.
The Nepali flag was waved on the south pole on Tuesday as per a twitter handle of Nepali Times. Nepali teams comprising Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Karma Tenzing and Tashi Sherpa apart from Purja planted the first Nepal’s flag there.
The twitter reads, the flag was planted after ‘skiing last one degree, spanning 100 kilometers on Tuesday'.
Earlier the group had scaled Mt Vinson, the highest mountain on the pole.
Purja has received a worldwide recognition in mountaineering after he successfully ascended all 14 eight thousanders earlier. He has also successfully completed the winter ascend of Mt K2 in the winter, an unprecedented event in the mountaineering field.
