The Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) has claimed that as many as 244 Nepalis stranded in the Ukraine due to recent crisis have reached safe destinations in the neighboring countries.
These people have said to reached ‘safe marked areas’ of which 60 are in Poland, 12 in Slovakia, 12 in Romania, four in Hungary, and two in Moldova, among other countries.
However at least 154 Nepalis are said to be waiting at several Ukrainian border to enter safe zones as per the NRNA.
The association said that 130 Nepalis are seeking safe passage to Poland, 12 to Slovakia, 10 to Romania, and two to Moldova. They are likely to safely leave the country by tonight, it has been learnt.
The government and the NRNA have recently formed a High-Level Committee who will support the stranded Nepalis to rescue or to provide other forms of assistance.
The committee is chaired by Nepal’s Ambassador to Germany Ram Kaji Khadka and coordinated by NRNA Vice-chair Badri KC (Russia). Members of the committee are Chiranjibi Khadka from Czech Republic, Jeevan KC (Poland), Hari Bahadur Malla (Ukraine), Shiva Kumar Bhurtel (Russia), Jaya Prasad Siwakoti (Slovakia), Nawaraj Pokharel (Romania), Suresh Shrestha (Hungary), Yaduram Panthi (Czech Republic), and Milan Panta (Germany).
A sub-committee has also been formed under the coordination of Bodhraj Subedi to provide necessary health services to conflict victims.
The NRNA has requested Nepalis in Ukraine to contact these people for any kind of support they need.
So far, 400 Nepalis have come in contact with the Nepali Embassy in Germany and the NRNA.
