Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday launched the distribution of ‘New Pakistan National Health Cards’ among the entire population of Punjab province in Lahore amidst a function.
This project will enable each family in the state to get medical treatment of up to Rs one million a year in both government and private hospitals.
Speaking at the inaugural occasion last Friday, PM Khan said that the initiation will help the country move towards an Islamic welfare state as envisioned by the founding forefathers of Pakistan. “Our forefathers had dreamed of making Pakistan an Islamic welfare state which was not developed on that course, but with this initiation we are on the right track,” PM Khan said. He also reminded that Madina was the first welfare state as enshrined in Islam but no Muslim world was on the track to become a welfare state in current times.
The PM calling the move a ‘revolutionary step’ said that the 30 million families in Punjab would benefit from the health card distribution project. He said that the unprecedented move will be unlikely in the future as well. The government has estimated that the project will cost four hundred billion rupees upon proper implementation.
Prime Minister Khan said the health card would help the poor in health emergencies. He said that the hospital sector would be established under this card scheme and the private sector would also be encouraged through this project.
Talking to Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bujdar in Lahore, Khan directed to take effective steps to protect the interest of the people. He also urged the CM to take all necessary steps to provide relief to the people at their doorsteps.
