The government has made it clear that it has no plans to join the US State Partnership Program (SPP).
On behalf of the government, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand made it clear that Nepal's land should not be used against any ally in any way.
In today's meeting of the House of Representatives, Home Minister Khand said, "Nepal has not joined the SPP program. No decision has been taken in this regard. No decision has been taken. I would like to make a clear commitment in this regard."
He informed that the Government of Nepal was working on the issues of national security and defense of Nepal as provided in the constitution.
He said that goodwill visits were already underway between Nepal and the United States and daily assistance was being exchanged and the previous visits and assistance were a continuation of the past.
Replying to a supplementary question by the lawmakers, Khand reiterated that the MCC agreement was passed by consensus and that Nepal had no involvement in the SPP. He further added that the MCC was not a military project but a development project and was passed with explanatory remarks.
"We are saying that we will not be involved in the SPP, we have done what we said in MCC yesterday, we are still doing what we say today," Khan added. "Nepal should not be involved in this state partnership program."
The prime minister's visit to the United States has not been confirmed
Home Minister Khand informed the House that the schedule of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's visit to the United States has not been confirmed yet.
Responding to the lawmakers' demand for clarification on the visit, he clarified that the House would be informed after the schedule is finalized.
He said that it was natural for the Prime Minister and Ministers to visit from time to time at the invitation of different countries.
