Police modernization and improvement project completed, what are the achievements?

 

The final meeting of the steering committee of the Police Project Modernization and Improvement (MIPP) project chaired by Inspector General of Police Shailesh Thapa Kshetri held at the Police Headquarters on Friday.

During the meeting, Inspector General of Police Kshetri said that the police organization has achieved a lot during the MIPP period and added that the police has made remarkable progress in its implementation by enhancing professional capacity, developing institutional capacity and ensuring public trust.

He said that projects like IPSSJ and MIPP were very important for the development of police organization.

He thanked the UK Government and other stakeholders for their role in implementing the project and developing the confidence, competence and capacity of the police force. He expressed confidence that they will continue to cooperate in other projects in the coming days as well.

 

During the meeting, Edward Roberts , Deputy Head of Mission of the British Embassy in Nepal, discussed the challenges faced during the implementation of MIPP in collaboration with the Nepal Police.

He mentioned the importance of the project and will continue to cooperate with Nepal Police in other projects in the coming days. Deputy Inspector General of Police Ishwar Babu Karki, Director, Investigation Planning and Development Directorate, Police Headquarters, discussed the importance and achievements of MIPP in the meeting.

Home Ministry Joint Secretary Dr. Bhishma Kumar Bhusal and Care Nepal's Assistant Country Director Mona Sherpa discussed the importance of the MIPP project.

During the meeting, Mette Nielsen , Adviser on Peace, Security and Justice for the British Embassy in Nepal, discussed the achievements, learning and future partnerships of the MIPP project.

Similarly, Project Chief of MIPP Project Komal Karki and Superintendent of Police Sabin Pradhan made presentations on the status of its implementation and overall progress.

During the program, representatives of the project implementing partners exchanged experiences, learned and reviewed the activities of the project. In the coming days, discussions and interactions were held regarding the areas of cooperation and partnership.

 

On the occasion, Inspector General of Police Kshetri expressed his gratitude to the representatives of project partners, British Embassy, ​​UNOPS, International Alert and CARE Nepal.

A bilateral agreement was signed on January 6, 2015 between the Government of Nepal and the then Department of International Development (DFID) and now the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

According to the agreement, it was to assist Nepal in preventing crime and domestic violence and mainly in reducing sexual violence. Accordingly, an integrated program project for strengthening security and justice was launched with the financial support of DFID. Under the project, the Police Modernization and Improvement Project Program was conducted from 2015 to 31 December 2021.

The goal of the project was to improve the rule of law in Nepal. Among the major achievements under the project, 70 physical infrastructure works have been completed. Similarly, various advanced trainings were also conducted to enhance the capacity of the police.

There are 84 automatic fingerprint information systems connected. The project has helped establish and operate a national crime information center on crime-related database software.

The program has also helped in setting up an oxygen plant at the Nepal Police Hospital, construction of a manual on community scorecards and training of 100 police officers. 

With the help of the project, various manuals, curricula and other knowledge products have been developed, research has been done on four different topics and reports have been received.
