Nepali Congress (NC) central committee member Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has been appointed the party Spokesperson.
Party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba appointed Dr Mahat to the post in accordance with Clause 25 (4) of the Party Statute, according to the NC Party Office.
Clause 25 (4) of the party statute has the provision that the party President under the duties, responsibilities of the rights of the President shall make work allocations of party office-bearers, make changes on their work allocations and appoint the party Spokesperson among the party office bearers or members.
The party President said he hoped that the appointment of Dr Mahat would contribute to further strengthening the party organisation, making the party presence more vital, dynamic and effective. Prior to this, Dr Mahat was the Joint-General Secretary of the party.
Dr Mahat was also the candidate for the General Secretary in the NC’s recently held 14th General Convention.
