Preparations to add ATMs at Tribhuvan International Airport is underway: DoI

The Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport has withdrawn the notice issued for foreign travelers to bring at least USD 200 in cash.

Chief Immigration Officer at the Tribhuvan international Airport Immigration Office, Pushparaj Shahi, informed that it has been decided to immediately withdraw the information (issued a week ago) by adding an ATM machine immediately.

He said, "We had asked them to bring cash for the convenience of the passengers as there would be long lines and technical problems when there is only one ATM machine." But within a day or two, some ATM machines will be added and the information issued earlier will be withdrawn. '

The office issued a notice on Sunday asking all tourists coming to Nepal to bring cash equivalent to two hundred dollars to be exchanged in Nepal for visa fee to avoid the lack of ATM machines and technical hassles in electronic services.

But since then, the embarrassing condition of the Nepali immigration service has been exposed and the immigration office has been widely criticized for asking them to bring cash. Chief Immigration Officer of the office Shahi has maintained that they have issued the information for the service of the passengers.

The Tribhuvan International Airport, however, said that it was paying attention to the management of the airport, claiming that there was no cooperation from the Immigration Office in the management of immigration and ATM.

Teknath Aryal, a spokesman for Tribhuvan International Airport, said: It was not within our jurisdiction, and the Immigration Office did not even inform us informally. Now we are trying to solve the problem. We are preparing to add ATM machines soon. '
