CPN (Unified Socialist)'s Senior Leader has condemned the ongoing road construction by India in the Lipulekh region.
Issuing a statement on Monday, Jhala Nath Khala, chief of the party's international department, claimed that the road is being illegally built in the Nepalese territory of Lipulekh by India.
“The attention of our party is drawn to the recent statement by the Indian Prime Minister that the road being illegally built in the Nepalese territory of Lipulekh will be further widened,” Khanal, who is also a former prime minister, wrote.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that a rural road expansion project is underway along the Lipulekh region at a program held in Uttarakhand a few days ago.
According to the leader of the ruling party, any development activity conducted there without consultation of the Nepalese government is totally illegal and is a flagrant violation of our territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
“The Indian government knows very well that the area of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura are sovereign territories of Nepal.
“Our party strongly condemns the ongoing road construction by violating our territory's integrity and provocative statements on the part of the Indian leaders.
“We would like to request the government of Nepal to take necessary measures to protect our territory on the border.”
