Russia has declared a tactical ceasefire on the two major cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha in Ukraine on Saturday to allow the people for evacuation.
"From 1000 am Moscow time (0700 GMT), the Russian side declares a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to leave Mariupol and Volnovakha," Russian news agencies quoted the Russian defence ministry as saying.
Many have opined that this new war tactic of Russia has given time for civilians there to flee their home towns while it might use violent force against those who did not leave their hometowns in coming days.
More than 1.2 million people have fled Ukraine to neighbouring countries in the past few days, according to UN.
Meanwhile, multiple news outlets in Russia have said that they will pause their work after a new law was introduce that could mean jail for those found to be intentionally spreading “fake” news.
Similarly, US envoy to UN condemns Russia’s seizure of the largest nuclear power station in Europe, calling attack “reckless” and “dangerous”. Ukrainian officials say attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant killed “several” people.
