Sanju Chaudhary, a gold medalist of the 13th South Asian Games (SAG), who was preparing for the Asian Games, was found dead on Tuesday.
Chaudhary, who was staying at the house of trainer Sanjay Maharjan in Lalitpur's Mahalakshmi Municipality-9, was found dead on Tuesday morning, police said.
She had come to the capital a few days ago to participate in the selection games.
According to the police, the door of Sanju's bedroom was locked from inside and a grill has been installed in the window. The incident is being investigated, police said.
SP Siddhi Bikram Shah of Lalitpur Police Office said that the police reached the spot after receiving information from the house owner. He said that Chaudhary was found hanging from a fan when he opened the door. According to him, the cause of the incident could not be ascertained. SP Shah said that no suicide note was found at the spot.
"Preliminary investigation shows that it is suicide," SP Shah told EPARDAFAS. ‘
Sanju, a permanent resident of Banke Rapti Sonari village, had won a gold medal in weightlifting at the 13th SAG in the country two years ago. She is the first female Nepali athlete to win a gold medal in SAG.
