French Ambassador to Nepal Gilles Bourbao is currently on a visit to Pokhara. He met with some government leaders in Pokhara. He also discussed sisterhood between Pokhara and French cities. During his visit, the two sides also discussed issues related to cooperation in tourism and agriculture, the embassy said.
The embassy quoted Ambassador Bourbao as saying, "Now I know why people adore this place."
During the visit, Gandaki Chief Minister Krishnachandra Nepali and Ambassador Bourbao met on Thursday. During the meeting held at the Chief Minister's Office, bilateral relations and cooperation were discussed.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Pokharel recalled the projects being undertaken by France for Nepal including food aid, exploration of petroleum products, distribution of drinking water and expressed confidence that the assistance would continue in the days to come. He said that since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1949, the relations between the two countries have been deepening.
Stating that handicrafts, garment wool and silver jewelry have been exported from Nepal, Chief Minister Pokharel expressed confidence that more tourists would come to Nepal from France as tourism is the basis of development of Gandaki and Pokhara International Airport is in the final stage of construction. He also urged France to invest in the development of tourism, hydropower and other sectors as foreign investment is needed.
Ambassador Bourbao said that France was ready to assist in the multilateral development of Nepal. Recalling that Maurice Andre Raymond Herzog, a French citizen, set a record by climbing Annapurna, he expressed his commitment to do his utmost to promote tourism in Gandaki and surrounding areas.

Ambassador Bourbao also had a meeting with Deputy Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City Manju Devi Gurung. During the meeting, discussions were held on the development of tourism in Pokhara and its sister relationship with the city of France.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary Ravilal Pantha and Deputy Chairman of the State Policy and Planning Commission Dr Raghuraj Kafle spoke on issues of mutual interest.
