The history made by the courage and martyrdom of the Nepali Security Forces in the United Nations

A program has been organized by the Nepali Army at the Birendra Military Training Center at Panchkhal in Kavre today on the occasion of INTERNATIONAL DAY OF UN PEACEKEEPERS -2022 .

Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma and other senior officials are participating in the program.

At the call of the United Nations, Nepal has been contributing to the establishment of international peace by sending Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.

 

 

One lakh 35 thousand 399 Nepali peacekeepers have already contributed in 43 peace missions established in the conflicting countries.

Currently, 5,168 Nepali peacekeepers, including 181 women, are deployed in 12 peace missions around the world. The Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force Nepal are also making commendable contributions to the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

At present, Nepal ranks second in the list of countries sending the largest number of peacekeepers. Nepal has already committed to send 10,000 troops if demanded by the United Nations.

However, many of the soldiers on the mission have lost their lives in attacks by various insurgents. So far, 87 Nepal Army personnel have died in the mission. The first Nepali soldier to die in Lebanon was Ganga Bahadur Darlami in 2036 BS. Last April alone, Lance Corporal Anil Gurung also lost his life in a rebel attack on the mission.

Eight were killed in Haiti, 30 in Lebanon's UNIFIL mission, seven in Darfur and five in Congo.

Capt. Sharad Bikram Rana, Dhruv Bahadur Bohra, Lt. Chandra bhushan Subedi, Bam Bahadur Ghale Gurung, Chakrapani Aryal, Bharat Bahadur Thapa, Ram Bahadur Tamang, Krishna Bahadur Bohra, Kedar Bahadur Khatri, Lok Bahadur Rana Magar, Bishnu Prasad Pokhrel, Lok Bahadur Raut and Baburam Giri, Jagannath Bastola, Chudamani Pandey, Jayanarayana Sharma and Ishwori Bahadur Tamang were killed in the Lebanon mission.  

Similarly, Jhalakman Tamang, Ganga Bahadur Thapa Magar, Dambar Bahadur Khadka, Nirmal Kumar Rai, Tek Jung Thapa, Chakra Bahadur Khadka, Man Bahadur Magar, Nayan Singh Bhandari, Ram Bahadur Gurung, Om Bahadur Ale Magar, Deepak Thapa Magar, Wratraj Karki, Nar Bahadur Magar also killed in the Lebanon mission.  They have lost their lives in the mission.

Major Kabindra Jung Thapa, Ram KC, Yuvraj Wasti, Ek Bahadur Darai, Gyan Bahadur Adhikari and Anil Gurung are among those who lost their lives in Congo.

Shiva Kumar Pun, Krishna Prasad Lamsal, Khetraj Wagle, Pritamraj Sinkhada, Laxman Tamang and Nawaraj Dhakal are among those who lost their lives in the mission in Somalia.  Bhakta Bahadur Thapa, Chiranjeevi Khatri, Mohan Singh Gaha Magar, Poshraj Adhikari, Rewat Bahadur Darai, Gopal Bahadur Pariyar, Shyam Bahadur Katawala, Sitaram Kafle, Bhagwat Neupane, Krishna Khanal and Dhruv Bahadur Pandey were killed in Haiti .

Similarly, Nepali soldiers have lost their lives during other missions. The Nepal Army began its mission in 1958 with five military observers on UN peacekeeping missions.

 

 

Such is the provision of relief

Spokesperson of the Nepal Army Brigadier General Narayan Silwal said that both the United Nations and the Nepal Army would provide relief to the families of the peacekeepers who lost their lives.

The United Nations has also provided a medal in the name of its former secretary general, Dag Hammarskjld, to peacekeepers who have lost their lives in missions. 

It has been decided to increase the amount of compensation to be given to the disabled and those who lost their lives by 10 percent in 2018, if the first 70 thousand US dollars was provided as relief.

Spokesperson Silwal said that the army would also provide facilities, respect, relief, pension and welfare benefits to the family.
