Those who have been recommended as ambassadors to 20 countries, from the relatives of the leaders to the lucky ones

Thursday's cabinet meeting recommended the appointment of ambassadors to 20 vacant countries. However, some of the names recommended by the government have been disputed from the beginning.

The government has recommended 12 people from political appointments and eight people from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as ambassadors. 

Bishnupukar Shrestha has been recommended as ambassador to China, Dan Bahadur Tamang to South Africa, Sharmila Parajuli Dhakal to Spain, Basudev Mishra to Sri Lanka, Milan Tuladhar to Russia and Kailash Pokhrel to Australia.

Similarly, Dilliraj Poudel has been recommended as Ambassador to Malaysia, Shanta Rijal to Israel, Jyoti Pyakurel to South Korea, Prof. Dr. Ramsuraj Ray Yadav to Denmark, Nawaraj Subedi to Saudi Arabia and Naresh Bikram Dhakal to Qatar.

Ghanshyam Bhandari has been recommended for Bangladesh, Harish Chandra Ghimire for Bahrain, Dornath Aryal for Oman, Sushil Kumar Lamsal for Egypt, Bharat Kumar Regmi for Vienna, Nirmal Raj Kafle for Brazil, Durga Bahadur Subedi for Japan and Tirtha Raj Wagle for Myanmar.

There is a constitutional provision that the names recommended by the government will be appointed by the President after a parliamentary hearing.

The parties in the ruling coalition have recommended the appointment of ambassadors to these countries.

Shrestha, who has been recommended for China, is a Maoist center leader and head of the party's election commission.

Tamang, who has been recommended for South Africa, is a former president of the Foreign Employment Businessmen's Association.

Pokhrel, who has been recommended for Australia, is the brother-in-law of Madhav Kumar Nepal, chairman of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party.

Mishra, the sister-in-law of Pampha Bhusal, the energy minister and Maoist center leader, has been recommended for Sri Lanka.


Parajuli, who has been recommended for Spain, is set to become ambassador for the second time. She has previously served as ambassador to Oman.

Subedi, who is on the foreign side, has also been the British ambassador before.
