Tribute and final honors have been paid to Pyutha of the Nepal Army who was killed in a rebel attack on the United Nations Mission in Congo।
During Operation Bali, on April 5, Anil Gurung, a peacekeeper from Gurmakot Municipality-14, Surkhet, was injured in a rebel fire.
He died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Buniya.
Gurung's body was brought to Nepal on Tuesday.
The Army today paid tribute and final honors to him for his sacrificial contribution.
Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma laid a wreath of the Nepal Army on the body and offered flowers as a final tribute to the deceased.
Defense Secretary Kiran Raj Sharma laid a wreath and paid his last respects. On the occasion, on behalf of the United Nations, Nepal Coordinator Richard Howard paid homage to Gurung by flying the UN flag on his body.
After the officers of the Nepal Army and the family members present in the program offered flowers on the body, the Nepal Army contingent offered salute as the last honor.
At the same function, Chief of Army Staff Sharma handed over the letter of condolence sent by the Force Commander of the MONUSCO Mission and the money provided by the Nepal Army for the last rites to the families of the deceased.
Gurung's body will be taken to Surkhet home district by a Nepal Army helicopter today and handed over to his family members, according to the Army.
