US condemns Abu Dhabi attack

The United States has strongly condemned a suspected drone strike on a petrol tank near a major oil storage facility in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Three people were killed and six were injured in the attack, state media reported on Monday.

According to the state news agency, one Pakistani national and two Indian nationals were killed and six others were injured in the blast.

A statement from US State Department spokesman Ned Price stated that "there is a strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Abu Dhabi.
 
It attacked civilian areas, including the international airport, killing and injuring innocent civilians. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the people of the UAE, "the statement said.

The statement said Huthi rebels had claimed responsibility for the attack.

"We reiterate our unwavering commitment to the security of the UAE and stand in solidarity with our emirate partners," the statement said.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke Mondey (Local Time)  with Emirati Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.  Secretary Blinken condemned the terrorist attacks today, which killed and wounded innocent civilians.  The Houthis have claimed responsibility for this appalling attack.  The Secretary expressed his solidarity with the Emirati people and voiced his condolences for the loss of life, state on PR issued by spokesman Price.
