US release new report on Indo-Pacific, what impacts will it bring on South Asia?

The United States has released a new report on the Indo-Pacific Strategy. The report is the first in a series of regional reports after Joe Biden was elected US President.

Making public the report, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken emphasized the need for the Indo-Pacific region to be independent and said that the US was committed to working with its partners to achieve this.

The White House in the report said, "We will continue to build a strategic partnership in the area." The US further said that it has kept India as a partner sharing similar ideology and kept China to meet the goal. The report further said that the US is committed to mobilizing additional diplomatic and security resources in the Indo-Pacific region for its development.

India a regional partner, China object

According to the report, China's aggression has spread around the world, most of them in the Indo-Pacific region. The United States has accused its allies of being affected by China's behavior, including economic pressure on Australia, conflict with India over the Line of Control, mounting pressure on Taiwan and threats to its neighbors in the East China Sea.

China is also reported to be violating human rights and international law. "Over the next decade, China is expected to change its compliance with the rules, which will benefit the Indian Pacific and the world," the report said.

The key features of the report

The first part of the report contains the strategic commitments, the second part is about its strategies, the third the action plan and the fourth is about conclusions.

The United States emphasizes an independent and open Indo-Pacific as one of the five major strategies. It is said that an independent and open Indo-Pacific can be achieved only by building collective capacity. For that, the strategy aims to make contact not only with the governments but also with the people of the region.

As part of its strategy, the United States will increase investment in the economic memory of the Indo-Pacific region. Similarly, there is a strategy to strengthen the security of the Indian-administered region and to meet the regional challenges of the 21st century.

To that end, expand the Indo-Pacific region, increase trade and investment for economic growth, resist the region and its partners, invest more than 100 million in the US-ASEAN initiative, emphasize the quad, increase cooperation between the US, Japan and South Korea. Action plan has been decided in this line.

The United States has entered a new phase in its foreign policy, and the role of the United States in the Indo-Pacific region has been the most sought after since World War II. It also said that the US will lead in diplomacy, security, economics, climate, epidemic response and technology in these areas.

US's concern on QUAD meeting

The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD), colloquially known as the Quad or QUAD's meeting comprising foreign ministers is currently underway in Australia. The quad includes the United States, Australia, Japan and India, a typical ally against China.

At the meeting, the foreign ministers have expressed serious concern over China's growing influence in the region.

A few days ago, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said the quad was formed to control China. He accused it of undermining international solidarity and cooperation and increasing tensions.

Influence in South Asia

The new US report is sure to have an impact on South Asia. In addition to its partnership with India, the United States will pursue economic and other cooperation and investment with other countries in the region.

On the other hand, the report aims to curb China's growing role. This is sure to increase the confrontation between the US and China in this area in the next few decades. This will only bring division among the countries, the pressure and influence will continue to win over countries like Nepal.
