Nepal has made a winning start in the sixth edition of Women's SAFF Championship football being held Tuesday at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor.
Nepal defeated Bhutan 4-0 in a one-sided affair. Savitra Bhandari and Anita Basnet scored two goals each for the Nepali team.
Heavy rainfall in the first half made the players struggle to control the ball.
Coach Kumar Thapa said he was happy to win the opener. "Rain disturbed the first half but my girls enjoyed the second half after the
rain stopped."
"My players played as per plan and tried to utilize all the substitutes today."
With this win, Nepal in Group 'B' has added 3 points in the first match. Bhutan started the tournament with a loss.
Now Nepal will play against Sri Lanka in the second and final match of the group stage on August 28.
