Former winners India defeated Pakistan in the opening match of the ongoing sixth edition of the SAFF Women’s Championship football competition in the capital today.
India won 3-0 against Pakistan at the Dasharath Rangshala in Tripureshwor. Pakistan’s own goal gave India the first lead. Pakistan’s captain, Maria Khan, scored a suicide goal on her own post in the 21st minute, giving India the lead for the first time.
India took the lead for the second time less than two minutes after Maria scored. Grace Dangmei, an Indian player, scored a goal in the 23rd minute of the game, giving India its second lead.
Then, in the second half’s extra time, India’s Soumya Guguloth scored to make the score 3-0. India has tied the top three points with this victory. Pakistan began the competition with a loss.
