The Supreme Court here on Tuesday ordered full implementation of the election code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Nepal for the upcoming May 13 local level election.
The Commission's Code of Conduct says people's representatives in the local level seeking re-election must resign from their post before filing nominations for upcoming elections.
Now the election code of conduct will be fully implemented with the joint bench of Justices Tej Bahadur KC and Til Prasad Shrestha ordering to dismiss the writ petition filed against the provision.
The local level's people representatives now must resign from their post to contest in the upcoming poll.
Helambu rural municipality chairperson Nima Galyzen Sherpa on March 21 had registered writ petition in the apex court against this very code of the Commission.
A single bench of Justice Bom Kumar Shrestha had issued an interlocutory interim order to the Commission in its rule on 'resignation for re-election'.
