Shakti Samuha and advocate Harijan receive Human Rights Prize

The government has provided this year's Human Rights Prize to Shakti Samuha and advocate Shailendra Prasad Harijan.


Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba gave away the prize to a representative of Shakti Samuha's Chari maya Tamang and Harijan amid a function held in the Capital City on Sunday. The awardees received Rs 111,111 each for the prize. 

The Shakti Samuha was picked in honour of the organization for its roles in respect, protection and promotion of human rights played by working against trafficking in persons, rescuing victims and facilitating their return from abroad to support in their better livelihood. 


On the occasion, PM Deuba said that the government was committed to democracy, human rights and rule of law. A democracy cannot remain strong without human rights, the PM said.


Likewise, Minister for Law Dilendra Prasad Badu said that the government was aware to coordinate among all the agencies working in the field of human rights for their promotion.
